Q:
What are the Properties of Non-Metallic Materials?

A:
  • Non-metals can be inorganic, e.g., Ceramics or
Minerals or they can be organic, e.g., Polymers

  • Non-metals may or may not display a metallic luster.

  • Ceramics tend to be non-malleable, non-ductile,
and non-sectile. However, Polymers can be all three.

  • Non-metals may be gaseous, liquid or solid at
    ambient conditions.

  • Engineered Ceramics and polymers are solid at
    room temperature.

  • Non-metals tend either to not react with oxygen
(Oxide Ceramics) or form covalent oxides, which
    can be gaseous and liquid.
